How deep should I insert the sensor?

Push the probes straight down until they're fully in the soil, near the roots, so the base sits at the soil surface. Probes partly in the air read too dry. In a small pot, angle it slightly so the probes stay in the root zone.

Does PlantSense work outdoors?

Yes, anywhere within Wi-Fi range: patios, balconies, greenhouses, garden beds. The sealed shell handles rain, including downpours. Just don't put it where it can end up under water, like a spot that floods or a puddle that covers the sensor.

Is PlantSense waterproof?

Accepted Answer

It's water-resistant, not waterproof. The shell slides on over rubber O-rings, sealing it against splashes and rain, so watering the soil as usual is fine. Don't submerge the sensor or leave it sitting in standing water.

How often does the sensor send data?

The sensor wakes every 90 minutes to 5 hours, reads all four sensors (moisture, temperature, humidity, light), transmits the data over WiFi, then returns to deep sleep to conserve battery.

Can I monitor multiple plants?

Yes! Each plant gets its own PlantSense sensor, and all of them appear in PlantSense Connect. You can give each one a name and a location, set its own alert thresholds, and see all your plants together in the app and on the web dashboard.

PlantSense supports 2.4 GHz WiFi networks (802.11 b/g/n). 5 GHz networks are not supported. Most home routers broadcast both bands — make sure to connect to the 2.4 GHz network during setup.

How long does the battery last?

With its 90-minute-to-5-hour reporting cycle, the battery typically lasts 3 months or more on a single charge. You'll get a push notification when the battery drops below 25%, and again below 20% and 15%.
