Popular Questions
How long does setup take?
A few minutes: charge over USB-C, pair over Bluetooth, join your Wi-Fi, and place the probe. The Quick Start Guide walks through each step.
Do I need a subscription?
No, never. PlantSense Connect is free — the app, the web dashboard, and updates are all included.
How long does the battery last?
Weeks on a single USB-C charge. The sensor sleeps between readings — one every 90 minutes to 3 hours — to conserve power.
Which Wi-Fi networks are supported?
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, not 5 GHz. Bluetooth is used only for first-time setup, then the sensor reports over Wi-Fi.
Does it know when I last watered?
It infers watering from the moisture readings — no logging — and estimates when the next watering is due.
Troubleshooting
When something isn't working
Connection issues
- Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is on and you're near the sensor.
- Join a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network — the sensor doesn't support 5 GHz.
- Power-cycle the sensor with its switch; a 1-second white flash means it restarted.
- If it never shows up in the app, charge it fully over USB-C and try again.
- Still stuck? Remove and re-add the device in PlantSense Connect.
Calibration
- PlantSense is factory-calibrated; you can fine-tune each sensor over Bluetooth in the app.
- Open the plant's settings in PlantSense Connect and tap Calibrate to start a session.
- Moisture: tap Calibrate Dry in completely dry soil, then Calibrate Wet right after watering.
- Values are written to the device and survive restarts and firmware updates.
- Temperature and humidity need no user calibration.
Battery & charging
- Charge through the USB-C port under the cap with any phone charger.
- The small charger light is red while charging and green when full — it's separate from the status LED.
- Sleep is automatic: readings every 90 minutes to 3 hours is what stretches a charge to weeks.
- Draining fast? Watch the status LED — a red blink means the sensor can't reach your Wi-Fi.
Wondering what the LED is telling you? The full status-light reference is in the Quick Start Guide.
